Katherine pictured at Santa Barbara Museum of Art-Women's Board, Off the Wall, Artist Reception.
Katherine paints en plein air, on location capturing Southern California vistas.
Artist Statement
Katherine has been drawn to the outdoors since she was a child, with its changing atmospheric conditions, colors of the sky, the clouds and ocean, all molding the landscape around it and telling a story which captivates the spirit and inspires the soul.
As a small child Katherine spent summers on Cape Cod on the water and as an adult, after moving to California, she grew to love the majesty of the San Gabriel Mountains in Pasadena and more recently, the Santa Barbara coast. She is inspired to share its beauty, its transitory yet expansive nature with its subtle color and strong tonality. Each landscape, animal or figurative work has a unique perspective and story to tell. Katherine’s mission is to capture the essence of that moment that “space in between” life and art.
Katherine works in oil - landscape, still life and figurative as well as multi-layer acrylic. She does fine art photography, from life, from coastal walks and local scenes in Santa Barbara and Southern California.
Background
Prior to painting, Katherine was a successful banker for many years, later a museum director and more recently, a financial planner. She has also been a board member with arts and preservation non-profits, helping the community.
